After banning plastic bags in July, France has become the first country to officially ban all plastic plates, cups, and cutlery. This law, which undoubtedly will affect many individuals as well as businesses in France, will go into effect in 2020.

That’s not to say that all dishes in France will need to be reusable. Instead, disposable dishes will have to be made of biologically sourced materials that are able to be composted.

As host of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference, France continues to be a leader on the environmental front. This new law banning plastic cups, plates, and utensils is part of the country’s Energy Transition for Green Growth Act.

Kudos to France for saying au revoir to plastic and pushing for more sustainable choices!
