Simone Biles and Simone Manuel have both made history in Rio. Manuel was the first African-American swimmer to win gold in an individual event and ended her competitions with four medals total from these Games. Simone Biles was the first U.S. gymnast to win four gold medals in a single Olympics. They’ll be coming home to a greater number of fans and, quite possibly, to a lot more Simones.
It seems that the two have sparked a baby name trend back in the States. The “Simone baby name” search has increased by 230%, which hasn’t been searched this often for the past 6 years. Origins of the name include “one who hears” and “one who listens well.” Maybe that characteristic has something to do with how far they’ve come in their athletic ability?
