Halima Aden made history when she stepped out in a burkini during the swimsuit segment of the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, being the first person ever to do so. Aden stated, “This is a great platform to show the world who I am. Just because I’ve never seen a woman wearing a burkini (in a pageant) it doesn’t mean that I don’t have to be the first.”
While she didn’t go on to win the pageant, Aden made headlines and became an inspiration to many.
